Security Jitters Over Emergence Of Another Islamic Sect In Northern Nigeria, As Boko Haram Threatens Kebbi

Security Jitters Over Emergence Of Another Islamic Sect In Northern Nigeria, As Boko Haram Threatens Kebbi

By SaharaReporters, New York
There are growing jitters in Nigerian security circles regarding how a group of Nigeriens entered Northern Nigeria and commenced spreading their Islamic ideology in parts of Niger state, a credible security source has told SaharaReporters.
The sect, called ‘Kalo-Kato,’ was discovered in Uregi-Kongoma and Kwana-Mariga districts of Rafi local government of the state, and are reported to have gone about preaching contaminated Islam, urging Muslims to disregard Hadith and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
Members of the sect, the security operative added, have been confusing and converting the moderate faithful to their fold.
He explained, “What we are investigating is, how they get here undetected? They came here before Ramadan and no one could raise alarm until two days back, how did they pass immigration? And what threats do they pose to the Nigerian State? So these are the things we are working on here and nothing more than that, we have not found any link to arms, but we are not leaving things to chance.”
When asked whether security operatives have discovered the leader of the sect, he answered, “Yes, he is one Abdulkadir Suwaba, as we talk we are surveying the area and as well carrying out investigation. This is how Boko Haram started, and so we know the gimmicks.”
The sect are said to be peaceful and just preaching their doctrines, they are also preaching that giving alms is not compulsory in Islam.
They are also challenging a prayer called ‘Nasilat’ in addition to five prayers indicated in the Quran.
SaharaReporters has further gathered that security has been beefed up in Kebbi State following intelligence that some elements of Boko Haram are planning attacks in the state.
Armed soldiers, police and plain cloth operatives are said to be manning strategic locations in the state following the latest developments.

First Lady Patience Jonathan Shuts Down Abuja With Rent-A-Crowd Rally To Kickstart President Jonathan's Campaign For 2015 Election

First Lady Patience Jonathan Shuts Down Abuja With Rent-A-Crowd Rally To Kickstart President Jonathan's Campaign For 2015 Election

By SaharaReporters, New York
The Nigerian women under the auspices of Nigerian Council of Women Society (NCWS) today organized a mass rally in support of the President Goodluck Jonathan towards  the 2015 general election.  The rally which was tagged “Celebration of Nigerian Women for Peace and Empowerment” witnessed by various women across most nigerian states was heralded by a motorized mass rally from Old Parade Ground area 10 through designated route started at 7.00am with the campaign posters of the President Goodluck Jonathan on each truck used by the women and some men.
The city of Abuja was shut down as business activities were grounded to a halt due the blockage of routes by security agencies. All roads from Berger Junction, Central Business Area, and Secretariat were blocked for the rally, which has led to the traffic snarl in the city. The rally, which is expected end at the Eagle Square later today has continued as at the time of filing this report.
Saharareporters gathered that the rally was funded by the first lady and several ministers as well as some state governors loyal to the president.
To cap the activities of the day an elaborate dinner party is slated for the International Conference Centre tonight.
The event which will also feature performances by popular musical artistes including Onyeka Onwenu, Yinka Ayefele, Iyanya, Sani Danja and several nigerian comedians.

FEMI FANI KAYODE ISSUES APOLOGY

                       FEMI FANI KAYODE ISSUES APOLOGY

''Chief Femi Fani-Kayode hereby expresses his deepest regrets for mentioning the names of three distinguished Nigerian ladies that he was once associated with in his last article titled ''A Word For Those Who Say I am A Tribalist''.
He meant no harm by doing so and neither did he at any point make references to having had any sexual relations with any of these ladies when they were associated with him as is being suggested by some members of the public. He was simply trying to emphasise the fact that he has nothing against the igbo people and that his friendship with these three ladies in particular over the years provided some evidence of that.

For the record he has not seen Madame Chioma Anasoh, Chief Adaobi Kate Uchegbu and Ambassador Bianca Onoh in many years and he admits that it was inappropiate for him to have mentioned their names in the essay, to use them as a point of reference in a public discussion or to make any references whatsoever to the nature of their past association. All references to them have been erased from the updated version of the essay.

Chief Fani-Kayode has reached two of the ladies concerned and he has personally conveyed his unreserved apology to them both and to their families for his indiscretion. He shall endeavour to reach the third lady to do the same in the next few days. Chief Fani-Kayode has nothing more to say on this matter and would prefer to remain focused on issues of national importance and not of a personal nature''

- Mr. Bisi Lawal, Press Secretary to Chief Femi Fani-Kayode

Tension In Kaduna Assembly Over Plot To Impeach Speaker

Dr Shehu Danfulani, Hon Ibrahim Ali and Bityong Nkom

Political tension is brewing at the Kaduna State House of Assembly as some members are moving for the impeachment of Speaker Usman Gangara and other principal officers.
A source told SaharaReporters the members on Wednesday engaged in a series of closed-door meetings but did not agree on the impeachment.
It was also speculated that some of the members have been financially induced to carry out the agenda, an allegation SaharaReporters has not been able to authenticate.  One source in the Assembly alleged that the executive arm of the government and some powerful politicians based in Abuja are behind the plot to impeach the Speaker, accusing him of not being forthcoming in implementing the bidding of the executive.
The source, who is also a member of the House said, “We are seeing the handwriting on the wall, that there are indeed moves to effect a certain agenda by changing leadership of the assembly. They just came and started saying that they want change in our leadership. We are watching some funny excuses as ineffectiveness of the leadership and we know where they are heading to.”
The source further said that at the end of their long meetings, the legislators achieved understanding and mended fences with all aggrieved parties and agreed to forge ahead.
An independent source in Kaduna town told SaharaReporters that the Assembly itself is a shadow of itself.  He drew attention to its weakness in its relationship with the executive arm despite the flagrant abuse of office in that branch, and use of state funds without carrying out their oversight functions as lawmakers. He also expressed the view that a majority of the legislators see their the Assembly as merely a place of making money, not to legislate or carry out oversight.
The Assembly, it would be recalled, recently indicted the executive arm in its report on the management of SURE-P funds.

REGINA ASKIA REPLIES FEMI FANI KAYODE

REGINA ASKIA REPLIES FEMI FANI                                                KAYODE

Regina Askia Calls Femi Fani
Kayode A Yoruba Bastard
Read what she said;
I've Just Been Told That
Having Sex With An Igbo
Woman Is A Great
Accomplishment!!! After
reading another hard-drug-
influenced-essay by the
Yoruba idiot parading himself
as Femi Fani-Kayode,Ex-
Minister of the Nigerian
Federation, I felt there was
no need to blame him for
giving us another reason why
his family members should as
a matter of urgency, BUNDLE
HIM BACK TO A REHAB! No! I
don't blame Femi Fani-
Kayode for having a fun-filled
day telling us how he
'breezed' through Bianca
Onoh before our very revered
Eze-Igbo married her... I
blame Bianca Onoh , Chioma
Anasoh & Adaobi Uchegbu for
being naive or to have rather
stooped so low to have
intimate relationship with a
Yoruba rascal/urchin/idiot
whom i'm very sure was on
heavy use of cocaine (and
still is) at the time!
Were Bianca, Chioma &
Adaobi blind to Femi's
madness/drug-addiction or
maybe he flashed his
Ministerial/Ex-Ministerial
portfolio to entice them? This
is the first time a former
public figure (I blame Former
President Obasanjo for giving
him that privilege) has
preferred to reel out the
names of women he had sex
with, in a bid to show-off how
he has been able to conquer
tribalism in Nigeria or maybe
trying to tell others he has
been able to have sex with
one of the prettiest ex
beauty queens another tribe
may boast of, like Bianca
Ojukwu (Nee Onoh) of the
Igbo tribe.
Some persons have adviced
that Femi Fani-Kayode should
be ignored due to his
MENTAL INSTABILITY but i
say NO to it! I will not ignore
him because when a mad-
man chases one into his
house & still want to exhibit
that madness there, the
owner of the house will
definitely react except he
doesn't value his house!
This has taken a tribal angle
& its such a shame that many
Yorubas have been
applauding Fani-Kayode's
spiteful comments against the
Igbo. I may not want to
generalize the behavioural
disorders of even the average
Yoruba, but i want to use this
ample opportunity to remind
our single Igbo sisters that if
"He" is not Igbo, He can't be
like an Igbo-man who won't
be so ridiculous to think that
giving us some of the names
of our ladies he had sex with
makes him a superman, as
Femi Kayode must be
'thinking' in his fool's
paradise.
Right now in Nigeria, the likes
of a Yoruba bastard like Femi
Fani-Kayode have proved that
Igbo women should think
"wisely" in making choices as
regards whom they allow
'ACCESS' to their much
fancied bodies. An Igboman
would NEVER do what Femi
Fani-Kayode did with the
names of Bianca Ojukwu (Nee
Onoh), PDP's Adaobi Uchegbu
& the relatively unknown
Chioma Anasoh or even
women from other tribes. He
typically exhibited
behavioural disorder of the
Yorubas, which is to them, a
normal way of life. What a
shame!
Bianca Ojukwu & the other
two ladies should as a matter
of urgency, reply Femi Fani-
Kayode's show of lunacy,
stupidity, foolishness,
infantile reasoning & utter
disrespect for them!
Femi Fani-Kayode consciously
& gladly made a spiteful
remark of Igbo women & our
women should take the fight
to him in a very deserving
impudent manner! I am
waiting for the responses by
Bianca, Adaobi & Chioma.
By the way, I never knew
men from other tribes take
having sex with an Igbo lady
as a great feat... Bianca &
others should hold their
heads high up.
WHY ALL THESE FIGHTING... I
RESPECT THE DESCENT ONES
AMONG US WHO CHOSE TO
KEEP QUIET.

APPROPRIATE AGENCIES MUST CALL IN FFK AND DEMAND HE STOPS HIS HATEFUL SPEECHES- OBY EZEKWESILI'

APPROPRIATE AGENCIES MUST CALL IN FFK AND

DEMAND HE STOPS HIS HATEFUL SPEECHES- OBY

EZEKWESILI''

A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has called on the government to arrest her ex-colleague, Femi Fani-Kayode, over opinion articles targeted at the Igbo ethnic group published by the later.

“If we had a functioning nation state with credible institutions they should by today take him in to restrain events,” Mrs Ezekwesili said.

She added, “The relevant agency of the FG must take in Femi Fani-Kayode and restrain him from making further hateful speeches against the Igbos.”

Mr. Fani-Kayode had written a controversial opinion piece entitled “The Bitter Truth About The Igbo” in what appears a reaction to the heated debate that followed Lagos’ repatriation of some destitute people believed to be of Anambra origin to Onitsha, a popular market town in the state.

In the “thoroughly candid and brutally frank” piece, Mr. Fani-Kayode touched on Nigeria’s turbulent history and what he considered the place of the Igbo in it all.

The article generated mixed reactions across the country, with some Igbo intellectuals publishing several counter articles lampooning the former minister.

The former minister followed up Tuesday with another piece which now appears to have triggered another round of controversy.

Mrs. Ezekwesili, also a former vice president at the World Bank, has now called on authorities to move against Mr. Fani-Kayode over the articles which she considers hateful and divisive.

Both Mr. Fani-kayode and Mrs. Ezekwesili served under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration as ministers.

Here are some of her tweets:

The relevant agency of the FG must take in Femi Fani Kayode and restrain him from making further hateful speeches against the Igbos...
oby ezekwesili @obyezeks

As an individual &his former colleague, I have nothing but empathy & love in my heart to counter his toxic speeches but FG must restrain him
oby ezekwesili @obyezeks

The current slippery slope of our country cannot be allowed to worsen with the kind of hateful speeches Fani Kayode has been releasing.
oby ezekwesili @obyezeks

FG must stop this stoking of hate-flame for an ethnic group that had once been tragically massacred in an avoidable civil war. Do it NOW!
oby ezekwesili @obyezeks

Freedom of speech is not to be confused for Freedom to stoke hatred for people of different ethnic, religious or ideological persuasion.
oby ezekwesili @obyezeks

I am yet to be persuaded that Nigeria's problem is Ethnic. Rather we battle with the curse of a CRASS elite class east-west-north-south.
oby ezekwesili @obyezeks

Appropriate agency of State must call in Fani Kayode now & demand he stops forthwith any more HATEFUL SPEECHES that EXPRESSLY TARGET Igbos.

5 Reasons Your Employees Probably Hate You

5 Reasons Your Employees Probably Hate You

5 Reasons Your Employees Probably Hate You
Many years ago I worked for a company whose CEO was a stickler for how many hours employees worked. He made a point to note who came early and who stayed late. He considered anyone who didn't a slacker.
As far as I know, nobody ever told him how shortsighted his approach was. Instead of rewarding results, he rewarded butt-in-chair time. Instead of focusing on output, he focused on input. Most hated the practice, but nobody told him.
How many of your behaviors drive your employees silently crazy that you don't know about? Here are five leadership missteps to look out for:
1. You reward the wrong things.
What gets rewarded gets done. It is such a familiar axiom of management that it is nearly cliché. It is, however, completely true. Where you focus your attention focuses your employees' attention. What you notice, note and reward will get done more frequently.
Identify and focus on the results that matter. And don't be like the executive above who confused activity with accomplishment.
2. You don't listen.
Even if your employees told you about a qualm of theirs, you might not really hear them. It is too easy to be distracted and pre-occupied.
Becoming a better listener is actually quite easy. When an employee is in your workspace to talk, turn off your email alerts, close your door and let your monitor go into sleep mode. Give your undivided attention to the person in front of you. They will feel you value them, and you'll likely increase the quality and speed of the interaction.
3. You don't notice what your employees are doing.
Brittney was a financial manager at a client firm. She was bubbly and outgoing. She also had the ability to draw attention to her "contributions," though many weren't that significant. Employees hated her self-aggrandizement. But they also disliked that management noted Brittney's efforts because they were easily observed. Leaders didn't pay attention to the good and often better work others were doing.
Great work is often done backstage, out of the spotlight. The glitter of self-promotion doesn't blind great entrepreneurs. They seek out those people doing good work and make it a point to notice. Pay attention to people who do good work and let them know. And don't get suckered by people who are better at promoting themselves than producing results.

4. Your attitude sucks.
Bill is an entrepreneur who constantly complains about how terrible his employees are at delivering customer service. He berates and belittles even their best efforts. And yet he's puzzled why those same employees treat customers poorly. The irony escapes him.
Attitudes are contagious. Mirror neurons pick up on and are affected by the moods of those around us. Leaders are especially powerful in influencing the mood of those on their team.
Don't expect others to be more upbeat than you or treat customers better than you treat them. There are a few entrepreneurs who might have dodged this bullet, but not enough to be statistically significant. Your attitude is contagious, so pay attention to how you act at work each day.
5. You can't keep your mouth shut.
A young entrepreneur we will call Bob loved to share insider information about others. At one after-work beer session, he shared something HR told him confidentially about a coworker who was not at the gathering. It was less than flattering and was instantly off-putting to those in the group. The employee, a valued and productive member of the team, learned of the betrayal of confidence and was outraged. She left the company soon after.
Don't think that trust can be effectively compartmentalized. If you're known to be untrustworthy in your personal life, few will trust you in your professional dealings. If people don't trust you, they will follow, but out of compliance instead of commitment.
No one is a mind-reader. If you want to find out why your team is dissatisfied to be a better leader, work on building trust and being equally open to both good and bad news. Ask them what they really think. And most importantly: listen.

43-Year Old Man Smashes His Sister's Head With Hammer For Stopping Him From Getting Married In His Dreams¤
A 43-year-old security man, Matthew Erazele, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court, over attempted murder, of his sister, Esther Erazele.
Erazele, who was docked before Magistrate Margaret Dan-Oni, is facing a count charge of attempted murder preferred against him by the police.

It was said that the defendant had accused Esther, who resides in the same house with him, of bewitching him whenever he planned to get married.

It was said that he used to see her in his dream, whenever he is with a woman that he wanted to get married to and she used to prevent him from getting married, which prompted him to hit her with a hammer on the head and also twisted her neck.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Okoi, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged crime on August 3, 2013, at about 8 pm, at 29, Ifekoya Street in Agege area of Lagos State.
He said that the defendant, while inside the room with his sister used hammer to hit her head severally.
Okoi said the defendant also twisted the victim’s neck, in order to strangle her.
However, when the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Dan-Oni granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties, who are gainfully employed, resident in Lagos State. One of the sureties must be a clergy man while one must reside in his property and show evidence of tax payment and address verified.
She adjourned the case to October 2, 2013, for mention and ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri prison, pending when he is able to perfect his bail conditions.

COPIED FROM HER FACEBOOK WALL:
I had just finished a meeting in awka, anambra state, about our just concluded ward delegate congress, when my co-ordinator called me. He told me about the article chief fanikayode wrote. Chief fanikayode had written that he was not tribalistic.and then,he went ahead to list a number of prominent women,my name included,as women of igbo extraction, who he had been closely related with.
I met chief fani-kayode at a pdp presidential rally at eagle's square in 2003. And when chief fanikayode became the special assistant to the president on public affairs, i became one of his many aides.
I will not deny the fact that it was in chief fanikayode's office, that i had my first experience in politics. It was in chief fanikayode's office that i learnt the gift of eloquence and public writing. I learnt from chief fanikayode the virtue of being loyal to your boss. And most of all,i learnt the ability to be determined and show love to my country, nigeria.
Armed with some political experience, i immersed myself in the politics of my state, anambra and i contested in anambra state house of assembly in 2011 and thereafter,i also submitted my humble self for the position of the pdp national woman leader last year.
A few of my supporters have told me to condemn,in the strongest terms, the said article. But,i will not do that.
I would rather concentrate on my political activities.
Chief fanikayode is one of the few de-tribalised nigerian that i know of. Chief fanikayode was a former brilliant and hardworking pdp chieftain. And i will always respect that fact.
Thank you for your patience,in reading this.
From chief(honourable) adaobi kate uchegbu.

Kudirat’s Murder: Lagos Drags Al-Mustapha To Supreme Court-PM News, Lagos

Kudirat’s Murder: Lagos Drags Al-Mustapha To Supreme Court-PM News, Lagos

Hamza Al-Mustpha
By Kazeem Ugbodaga
The Lagos State Government has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the judgments delivered by the Appeal Court in favour of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha and Lateef Shofolahan in the murder case of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.
The Appeal Court, a month ago, upturned the judgment of the High Court of Lagos which passed death sentence on Al-Mustapha and Shofolahan.

At news a conference today at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye said the state government formally filed an appeal at the Supreme Court on Monday against the two judgments delivered by the Appeal Court.
“The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has filed appeal papers against the judgments delivered by the Court of Appeal in the cases of Lateef Shofolahan vs The State and Al-Mustapha vs The State,” he said.
Ipaye noted that the government had indeed studied the two judgments delivered by the Appeal Court very closely and concluded that there were grounds for appeal, which made the government to formally file the appeal at the Supreme Court on Monday.
“Having fully reviewed the decisions of the respected Justices of the Court of Appeal, it is our humble view there are strong bases for appeal which the Supreme Court of Nigeria should have an opportunity to consider,” Ipaye stated.
The Attorney General said the step the government was taking would also ensure that all issues were fully articulated and that the victim’s family, the defendants and the society were not deprived of the last window of opportunity provided by the constitution for the resolution of the case.
The commissioner added that government was committed to ensuring that law abiding residents and visitors continued to live, work and pursue their various aspirations in a safe and secure environment.
Al-Mustapha, the former chief security officer to the late head of state, General Sani Abacha, and Lateef Shofolahan, Kudirat’s aide, were accused of masterminding the assassination of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola, wife of Chief MKO Abiola, acclaimed winner of the 12 June, 1993 presidential election, and were sentenced to death by a High Court in Lagos.
They were arrested in 1999 and their trial dragged for fourteen years before they were set free in July this year.

SIX GREAT THINGS A NIGERIAN STUDENT SHOULD DO DURING THIS ASUU STRIKE (DON`T WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS TIME)

SIX GREAT THINGS A NIGERIAN STUDENT SHOULD DO

DURING THIS ASUU STRIKE (DON`T WASTE YOUR

PRECIOUS

TIME)

Instead of wasting this time, instead of waiting for ASUU or FG, you can choose to do any of the following during this ASUU strike

1. Acquire a skill: This one’s a no-brainer, there’s all kinds of stuff you can learn in a few months, and some in just weeks. How about using that time to improve your IT skills, learn a new language, pick up a musical instrument, receive lessons in Kung Fu?…seriously. If money’s a concern, there are truckloads of free/subsidised learning resources, if you know how to look. It will surprise you where these skills will prove useful down the road.

2. Get a job : That’s right, get a job. With what certificate, you ask? Who says you need a certificate to get a job? There has to be something you know how to do, get out there and look for someone that needs a hand at their office or company, even if you’re going to work for your father and for free. Yeah I said it, work for free if you have to.

3. Start a business: Although it seems like a more glamorous alternative to getting a job, this one is far more challenging and is certainly not for everyone. However, even those who start and fail would have learnt invaluable life and business lessons that only such an experience can teach.

4. Become a volunteer: Aside from the feeling of accomplishment and fulfilment that comes from serving humanity, volunteering can be one of the most rewarding activities you can engage in, given the potentially high levels of training, travel and connections that such platforms expose you to. What’s more, most volunteer organisations have programs specially tailored for young and student volunteers that allow you to conveniently sustain your volunteer activities even while you’re in school. Examples? HIV awareness platforms/NGOs, Red Cross, Organisations that care for the homeless, paraplegics, convicts, etc.

5. Attend seminars and industry events - You might not know it, but there are always interactions and discussions going on around your chosen discipline on many levels, manifesting themselves in seminars, trainings, meetups, exhibitions, expos, symposia, book readings, concerts and much more. A lot of these are free or subsidised, especially for students, and again there is the opportunity to gain exposure and make valuable connections.

6. Work on that idea: You know what I’m talking about. That song that came to you in the shower. That niggling question that your lecturer refused to (or couldn’t) answer. That book manuscript that has been gathering dust in the corner of your wardrobe. Those ideas that you’ve been too busy going to school to explore. Now is the time to work on those things. You might never get a better opportunity.

Boko Haram Leader Pokes Fun At US, France, Claims Sect Winning War Against Nigerian Military-PREMIUM TIMES

Boko Haram Leader Pokes Fun At US, France, Claims Sect Winning War Against Nigerian Military-PREMIUM TIMES

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau
By Ola' Audu
The Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has, in a newly released video, claimed responsibility for the recent attacks in different Borno and Yobe communities including Malumfatori, Bama, Biu, Konduga, Gamboru Ngala, Gwoza, and Damaturu.
Close to 100 people including about 14 soldiers were killed in the various attacks; with the latest being in Konduga over the weekend when about 44 people were killed when gunmen dressed in military uniform attacked worshippers in a mosque.
Mr. Shekau, who spoke in Hausa amidst intermittent triumphant laughter, said the military lied about its victories over their sect.
“The military is lying to the world about the battle we had with them; they lied that they have killed our members, but we are the ones that have killed the soldiers.
“We call on you all to repent and come to the ways of Allah. Forget about constitution and accept Shariah. We don’t have socialism, we don’t know communism, we don’t want federalism, but we are Muslims.
“You soldiers have claimed that you are powerful, that we have been defeated, that we are mad people; but how can a mad man successfully coordinate recent attacks in Gamboru, in Malumfatori, slaughter people in Biu, kill in Gwoza and in Bama where soldiers fled under our heavy fire power. We have killed countless soldiers and we are going to kill more. Our strength and firepower has surpassed that of Nigeria. Nigeria is no longer a big deal as far as we are concerned. We can now comfortably confront the United States of America.
“Let the world know that we have been enjoined by Allah to kill the unbelievers just like how we were enjoined to slaughter rams during Eidel Kabir. And we shall continue to kill those who strive to stand against the will of Allah by opposing Sharia. We don’t mind if we die doing this because it is even a blessing for us to die in this cause and gain paradise. So we are winning on either side. So it is never too late for you to repent and join us on the path of righteousness,” he said.
Boko Haram has been outlawed and declared terrorists by the Nigerian government. The U.S. has also declared Mr. Shekau and other Boko Haram leaders wanted and placed a bounty on them.
The claim by the sect that it is winning the battle against Nigerian soldiers differs significantly from that of the military which says it has killed and arrested hundreds of members of the sect and has dislodged a large number of its cells. The military has said it is winning the war against the insurgents.
Apart from the military action against the sect, the federal government is also negotiating with the sect in order to get them to lay down their arms. The government’s negotiating team, led by the Minister of Special Duties, had claimed just before the Ramadan fast, that it secured a ceasefire with the sect; a claim Mr. Shekau disputed in an earlier video.

Nigeria, First African Country to Ratify Arms Trade Treaty

Nigeria, First African Country to Ratify Arms Trade Treaty

Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru
By SaharaReporters, New York
Nigeria on Monday become the first African country to sign and ratify the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), with Minister of Foreign Affairs Olugbenga Ashiru saying the event represents the country’s deep commitment to a treaty which establishes common international standards for the import, export and transfer of conventional arms.
Also praising Nigeria’s initiative, Control Arms’ spokesperson Anna Macdonald noted how, throughout the negotiations on the ATT, Nigeria was a leader for the African continent.
“We are proud of Nigeria’s leadership again today as Foreign Minister Olugbenga Ashiru simultaneously signs and ratifies this first ever global agreement regulating the transfer of arms and ammunition,” she said.
She stressed that Africa has long suffered the impact of an arms trade that is out of control.  “From Somalia to Mali to the DRC, weapons have been entering conflict zones and increasing the level of violence for decades. Other African countries must now step forward and follow Nigeria’s lead. The continent needs an Arms Trade Treaty that is in effect and implemented as soon as possible.”
Mr. Ashiru said Nigeria remained “resolute and unyielding” in her efforts to uphold the principle of ATT and, in particular, ensure that small arms and light weapons is appropriately transferred and access denied to terrorist groups, pirates, bandits and the like.
Ms. Macdonald expressed the view that with over 80 countries’ signatures and several ratifications since the treaty opened for signature, there is momentum to urgently ensure the ATT becomes international law and starts saving lives.
Fifty ratifications are needed for the treaty to enter into force, and she called on all states top get to work on their national legislation as soon as possible.
The treaty was open for signature and ratification at the United Nations in New York on June 3, and on that day, over 65 countries signed the landmark treaty, the objective of which is the regulation of the multibillion-dollar global arms trade.
The treaty is of great importance to Nigeria, which continues a fierce battle against Islamic militants in the northeast of the country.   Only recently a security chief said that many state governors have started to import arms as the country prepares for major elections in 2015

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

While reviewing Nigeria’s history since independence, former President Olusegun Obasanjo said the country may have been cursed with poor and irresponsible leaders.
Mr. Obasanjo, who gave the keynote address at the 4th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit organised by Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan, in collaboration with African Sustainable Development Network, on Tuesday, said if Nigerians were yet to commend a leader after 53 years of independence, “Then we are jinxed and cursed; we should all go to hell.”
He also condemned the younger generation of leaders in the country, saying they lack integrity and probity and have failed their people woefully.
Making specific reference to his Vice President for eight years, Atiku Abubakar; former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu; former Speaker, House of Representatives, Salisu Buhari; former Bayelsa State Governor, Deprieye Alamieyeseigha; and others as younger generation of leaders, the former President said Nigeria was not lucky even with them.
“We had some people who were under 50years in leadership positions. One of them was James Ibori, where is he today? One of them was Alamieyeseigha, where is he today? Lucky Igbinedion, where is he today?
“The youngest was the Speaker, (Salisu) Buhari; you can still recall what happened to him. You said Bola Tinubu is your master. What Buhari did was not anything worse than what Bola Tinubu did.
“We got them impeached. But in this part of the world some people covered up the other man. The man claimed he went to Government College, Ibadan but the governor (Oyo State) went to Government College and packed all the documents so that they would not know that he did not go there.
“I wanted someone who would succeed me so I took Atiku. Within a year, I started seeing the type of man Atiku is. And you want me to get him there?
“I once went to Tanzania because Julius Nyerere recognised Biafra. He told me not to mind his aides and others in government. They would say they have one house in town but their five year old sons and daughters would have houses all over.
“Some of you who are condemning the leadership would get there tomorrow and it will be a different story. Only very few are actually good.
“Abacha, my predecessor got $750m. Through our lawyer in Switzerland we recovered $1.25bn and the lawyer still said there is probably still another $1bn to be recovered. In 1979 we had 20 new ships specially built for Nigeria. When I came back 20 years after, the national shipping line had liquidated.
“The whole thing is not just about leadership. If we talk about good leadership you should also talk about good followers. If you talk about human right you should also talk about human duties and obligations.
“It is sad that after 53years of independence we have no leader that we can commend. The problem in Africa is that when one person takes over he would not see any good thing that his predecessor did. Let us condemn but with caution,” the former military ruler and two-term democractically elected president said.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Isaac Adewole said he was worried about the fate that could befall the country as she holds her general elections in 2015.
“We have not raised question about the scenario where 35 people found it difficult to conduct credible election in this country,” the don said in reference to the election of the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum that has polarized Nigeria’s 36 state governors.

Nigerian man's body found floating in a private beach in Cyprus

Stanley Eteimo's body was found floating in a private beach in Cyprus on Thursday 8th August. The 28 year budding singer and student (pictured) had gone to a party at a popular 5-star hotel called Kratos Hotel the previous day Wednesday August 7th with some friends.

According to the friends of the late Bayelsa state indigene, while at the party, he met a white girl he knew from school and started chatting with her. The white girl's boyfriend, who was also at the party, got jealous and confronted Stanley, which led to serious argument between the two men. The white dude allegedly threatened to kill Stanley for disrespecting him and was overhead saying nothing will happen because Stanley was in his country.

At 2am, some of the friends Stanley came with to the party were leaving and asked him to come along but he insisted he was still having fun and wanted to stay back. By 4am, the party had ended and the Nigerian boys who left at the close of the party didn't see him and assumed he had gone home. Continue...

By 3pm on Thursday 8th of August, management of Kratos Hotel called the police informing them of seeing a body floating by the shore of their private beach. It was Stanley.
Cyprus police have declared it a suicide case without autopsy. They are claiming he committed suicide by drowning himself. His brother who went to identify Stanley's body said he saw blood stain from his ear, mouth and nose.
The brother insists it's not suicide because Stanley had no reason to commit suicide and wants the guy who threatened him at the party that night investigated. Also, the hotel refused to provide CCTV tapes of that particular day. During the day, the 5star hotel has workers, life guards and security guards, who have all denied either seeing Stanley come in or go out of the premises.

Stanley recently got engaged to a Cyprus lady, Gozde (pictured above). His friends are worried the case will be swept under the rug because it's a black and white thing and wanted to get the story out.
Friends of Stanley Eteimo say he was a friend to everybody, loved life, had a great spirit, transparent soul and a lovely personality.
"We have lost a rare gem and a terrific person." They said

His candle light remembrance will take place at Club W's winter parking lot, Girne today Sunday 11th of August. It starts at 7pm . May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
Hope our embassy in that country will look into this matter.
